Young AHOY 2021: Georgie Stone

About to turn 21 in May 2021, Georgie Stone is an actress, writer and passionate transgender rights advocate. She was the youngest person to receive hormone blockers in Australia, which set a precedent to change the law that compelled transgender children and their parents to apply to the Family Court of Australia to receive treatment. She continues to advocate for transgender children and is one of the most visible transgender individuals in Australia. She was featured on Four Corners in 2014 and on Australian Story in 2016. She is also an Ambassador for Wear It Purple, which strives to foster supportive, safe, empowering and inclusive environments for rainbow young people.

Georgie’s life story, as a very high profile transgender individual, and her continued advocacy work reflect both the Mission and Values of HA. Most particularly the mission statement to “advocate for policies that reduce societal inequalities, advance secularism, advance human rights, and improve quality of life, guided by reason and evidence” and the values of Compassion, Diversity and Integrity.
